9. Ernst Robert Curtius Vorlesung: Prof. Dr. Graham Priest (CUNY)

Since 2009 the International Centre for Philosophy NRW hosts an annual lecture of excellence in honour of Ernst Robert Curtius. This event consists of two parts, a lecture and a colloquium. Our guest speaker this year is Prof. Dr. Graham Priest (CUNY).

Lecture: “Everything and Nothing”, November 9th 2017, 4:15 p.m.

Abstract: “In this talk I will argue that everything (the totality of all objects) and nothing (the absence of all objects) are perfectly good objects. Each can be defined as a certain mereological sum (fusion).  Moreover, I shall argue that nothing is a contradictory object, which is also not an object; and further, that this contradictory object is, in a certain sense, the ground of reality.”

Colloquium together with Prof. Dr. Otávio Bueno (University of Miami) and Prof. Dr. Markus Gabriel (University of Bonn), November 10th 2017, 10:15 p.m.

Lecture and colloquium are free of charge and open to the public. Everyone interested is cordially invited. For further questions please contact Dr. Jens Rometsch (jens.rometsch@uni-bonn.de).
